My Tire Is Toasted
Well, it's been a month since my last post and I'm still going strong. There have been some challenges, but no major roadblocks to progress.
One of my biggest challenges has been timing. I want to work out four days per week, no more than two days consecutively. Our winter has been quite dreadful so almost every week there is one day that Curves is closed. That puts a monkey wrench into the works. But I've been working around that and still making my four days. Three days in a row is still a little hard on my knees but I go three days in a row if needed to meet my four days. By the same token, three days without a workout is really felt. Ouch, puff, puff, pant, pant!!
My bigger problem is meeting my walking and step goal. I researched it a bit today and got some good hints. Like walking during commercials, parking at the end of the parking lot, walking for 10 minutes at a time. I'll give it a try and let you know next month how it goes.
Today at my coaching session I had lost 23 pounds and 9 inches!!
23 POUNDS! That's equal to an average car tire and a two-slice toaster. Holy cow! I can't imagine walking around carrying a tire in one hand and a toaster in the other.
More next month.

It's Just the Beginning
This year I will turn 66. It was looking like another year where I'd be dragging around, overweight and very out of shape, knees aching and just plain a fat wreck. Well, I decided that enough was way too much.
I joined our local Curves on Dec. 12, 2013. I had my annual physical and my doctor, who I absolutely love and respect, supported my decision to try yet another plan to lose weight.
Now, you must understand that I have tried almost every weight loss program out there. Some of them actually worked, but then I gained the weight back and more. I am determined that any weight loss from here on out will be permanent.
So, will I be brave enough to post my results? To quote a former Alaska governor, "You betcha!!"
Here goes....
Dec. 12, 2013 Weight 256 lbs.
Jan. 13 2014 Weight 253.5 lbs
Weight loss 12.5 lbs, and a loss of 5 inches. Yippee!
12 lbs is equal to 3 half-gallon cartons of milk.

I am going to Curves four times per week for a 30 minute workout and following a reduced calorie diet plan. And, I drink 6-8 glasses of water every day. Water. Really. Me. Water. Who'd have thought we'd ever see that?
There are so many little things that I have noticed since losing even this small (for me) amount of weight.
-I can walk up stairs without my knee hurting
-I stand and walk straighter
-I sleep better at night
-I don't crave sweets and starches
-My skin and eyes aren't as dry
-I have way more energy
-I am happier
Okay, so I'm really enthusiastic right now. You may wonder if I can continue. So do I! But, I've been at it now for more than a month and I haven't given up or even skipped a workout. I plan to stick with it and I'll keep posting.
